Manchester United and Bournemouth will be looking to build on their midweek victories in the Premier League when they square off at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.
The Cherries will be seeking revenge against the Red Devils after they lost both home and away fixtures to Erik ten Hag's side last season by an aggregate score of 4-0.
The contest was goalless when Bruno Fernandes missed a first-half penalty, but the United skipper's blushes were spared thanks to a brace from Scott McTominay, who netted either side of a Cole Palmer equaliser to propel the Red Devils to a much-needed three points.
McTominay has now scored more league goals (six) than all of United's forwards combined (four) so far this season, and the Scotsman's heroics helped Ten Hag's side climb back up to sixth place in the Premier League table as well as move to within three points of fourth-placed Manchester City, who lost 1-0 at third-placed Aston Villa on Wednesday.
The prospect of drawing level on points with the Citizens before they face Luton Town on Sunday is sure to motivate Man United, who will hope to build on their midweek success by claiming another morale-boosting win over Bournemouth before preparing for a pivotal Champions League tie with Bayern Munich next week and then a challenging top-flight clash at Liverpool.
