The Lions navigated a challenging path to reach the second round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup AFC qualifiers. In the initial two-legged encounter of Round 1, Singapore confronted the Guam national football team and advanced with an aggregate victory of 3-1.
However, their journey in Round 2 got off to a rocky start as they suffered a resounding 5-0 defeat at the hands of South Korea, prompting a shift in focus to their upcoming match against Thailand.
In contrast, Thailand’s national football team bypassed the Round 1 trials, being one of the 26 nations granted direct entry to Round 2.
Despite their favored status, the War Elephants faced disappointment in their Group C Second Round opener, succumbing to a 2-1 defeat against the visiting China national football team. With both Singapore and Thailand eager to secure three points, they are set to face off on 21 November.
