AEK Athens will be looking to maintain their position at the top of Group B in the Europa League when they travel to the Stade Velodrome to face Marseille on Thursday.
The two teams are meeting for the first time since the last 16 of the European Cup in 1989-90 when Les Olympiens prevailed 3-1 on aggregate.
The Italian entered the international break on a high after steering Marseille to a comfortable 3-0 win over Le Harve in Ligue 1, but his side were brought back down to earth last weekend when they suffered a narrow 1-0 loss at Nice, with the 78th-minute dismissal of Leonardo Balerdi followed just a minute later by the game's only goal headed home by Evann Guessand.
Gattuso has become the first Marseille coach to lose two of his first three Ligue 1 games in charge of the club since Eric Gerets in October 2007, and Les Olympiens have subsequently slipped to eighth in the table, but they are only two points behind the European places.
Marseille return to Europa League action on Thursday having already picked up two points from score draws with Ajax and Brighton & Hove Albion in Group B, coming from two goals down to rescue a 3-3 draw with the former in matchday one before letting a two-goal lead slip to draw 2-2 with the latter three weeks ago.
